World Class Redfish, Trout and Flounder Fishing
Calcasieu Lake – “Big Lake”
Roughly 12 miles long by 9 miles wide, the big shallow lake known as Calcasieu Lake, continues to hold impressive numbers of Redfish, Speckled Trout and Flounder year after year. With an average depth of roughly 4 feet, Calcasieu Lake offers some of the finest coastal fishing in the country. Boudreaux’s Guide Service fishes throughout the entire Calcasieu Estuary, which includes the Calcasieu River, Ship Channel, Marsh areas, Jetties and much more.
There are many species of fish to be caught throughout Calcasieu Lake. The most sought after are the Speckled Trout, Redfish and Flounder. Often times, Redfish can be found stacked up feeding on bait thoughout the lake where, on a good day, almost every cast can deliver a bite. Speckled Trout can be found in schools under birds, where they too can be picked up in large numbers. Calcasieu Lake is probably most popular though for its trophy Speckled Trout. It is not unlikely to catch Specks pushing 20″ plus. Flounder are typically caught when chasing after Reds and make for a great meal.
It is important to be familiar with the territory when fishing Calcasieu Lake. There are many underwater obstructions that can easily rip through a boats hull. Calcasieu Lake is also an extremely shallow lake averaging about 4 feet deep. When chasing after big Reds, an inexperienced fisherman can easily get stuck in the more shallow parts of the lake.
You can be assured that when fishing with Brad or James Boudreaux that you will be safe throughout the trip. They have both been fishing Calcasieu Lake their entire lives and are true professionals.
